Marisa’s Mac 4×4 Challenge Update

The Mac 4×4 is a long-distance, annual, four-wheel drive navigational endurance event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support that has taken place every March since 2002. Starting in the West Midlands of England in the UK and covering up to 1000 miles on and off-road in about three days. See http://www.mac4x4.co.uk

Marisa Wayne, the youngest daughter of legendary Hollywood icon John Wayne will fly over from California to compete in the 10th anniversary run of the Macmillan 4×4 UK challenge over the weekend of 4th – 6th March 2011 as a co-driver in ‘Team Duke’, one of the Beds, Herts and Cambs Land Rover Club (BHCLRC) teams. Marisa will compete in a 1995 300Tdi Defender in this special run of the event which also marks the 100th anniversary of Macmillan. Marisa will also be presenting the trophies at the prize giving dinner in Daresbury on the Sunday evening.

Marisa’s participation will help raise awareness of the event and subsequently boost sponsorship opportunities, all of which goes directly to Macmillan. The Mac 4×4 currently raises over £100,000 per year for Macmillan Cancer Support, with a grand total of approximately £600,000 to date.

Marisa enters the event as an ambassador for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation (JWCF), in acknowledgement of the two charities respective roles in cancer related support and research.

John Wayne survived lung cancer in 1964, but died 15 years later after a battle with cancer of the stomach. During this difficult period, he became passionate about helping others fight this terrible disease. To honour his memory, his family created the John Wayne Cancer Foundation (JWCF) to bring “courage, strength and grit” to the fight against cancer.

Since its founding in 1985, the JWCF has supported awareness programs, education programs and support groups, and is aligned with like-minded groups and non-profit organisations that advance the fight against cancer. JWCF has also been committed to groundbreaking cancer research and education at the John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI).

Colorado Road and Tri Team – Racing and Giving

Team DUKE would like to send a big thanks to Ryan’s team. Thanks for supporting the cause. Fernando did well and brought home a medal, finishing in 1.5 hours with over 1,100 triathletes competing.

Team DUKE Colorado also recently donated a Felt frame and fork on behalf of Team DUKE to a rider who isn’t able to afford a bike. This person loved cycling as a kid, and wanted to get back into cycling, but with kids and other issues, getting a nice bike wasn’t in the cards this year. Until Team Colorado stepped in, and made his day by donating the frame and fork so he can get back in the saddle again. This rider also supports the fight against cancer.

“We thought it would be cool to reach out to the community and to help a less fortunate cyclist get back into doing what he loved!!” – Ryan, Team DUKE in Colorado

Thanks Ryan and team. When you love cycling this much, it is natural to pass it on.

Open Air Big Bear Mtn Bike Race June 20 – By Michael Page (MP) Racing

Zac

It was quite a busy weekend up at Big Bear for sure!!  We rode around 20 miles on saturday, and then race day, did about the same.  As some of you may know, we were holding down the fort for Team Duke and had quite a setup. Two easy ups and pretty much a front and center location made us the hit of the event.  And as for the race, we did great.  Zach T. placed 2nd in Cat3 19-29, while I placed 4th in Cat3 30-34. Brian busted his cog around 11 miles into the race (Cat2 single speed), so he had to use his bike as a scooter, but still came in under 2 hrs!!  And Damian made sure no one got sun burned or missed the opportunity for a temporary tattoo by running the show while we were racing (thanks again!!).  So, all in all, it was a great experience and a great showing for the team!!  See you all soon and click here for pictures.
